During the 1990s many articles have been published identifying Jesus as a Jew, a Christian, an Essene, a politically correct socialist, a Buddhist and most recently a Freemason! In March-April 1996 alone several articles in major newspapers and periodicals were published concerning the historical figure of Jesus
In one tomb were found the names of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, another Mary (suggested to be Mary Magdalene), a Matthew and a Juda son of Jesus
Inevitably this led to speculation that Jesus had not been raised from the dead which was in contrast to a survey that showed that half of Britain still believed in the resurrection, more than 4 times the adult church-going population! TIME magazine recently ran a cover story entitled ' The Search for Jesus
What are Christians to believe? ' In these pages we will do just that, search for the real Jesus, the 'Christian' God and Jewish man 'in one agreed.' The Bible itself has a high view of literal historical narrative, all of it was written for our instruction (Romans 15.4; 1 Corinthians 10.11), therefore we can be instructed out of the historical life of Jesus as much as from his definitive theological statements about God

The Myth of the Historical Veracity of Jesus

REFUTING MISSIONARIES by Hayyim ben Yehoshua PART 1: THE MYTH OF THE HISTORICAL JESUS Much concern has been expressed in the Jewish media regarding the activity of 'Jews for Jesus' and other missionary organizations who go out of their way to convert Jews to Christianity
I can recall being taught the following story about Jesus at the Jewish day school I attended: 'Jesus was a famous first century rabbi whose Hebrew name was Rabbi Yehoshua
Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem during a Roman census
Jesus grew up in Nazareth and became a learned rabbi
The claim that Jesus was a rabbi named Yehoshua and the claim that his body was probably stolen both turned out to be pure conjecture
There was absolutely no historical evidence that Jesus, Joseph or Mary ever existed, let alone that Joseph was a carpenter or that Jesus was born in Bethlehem and lived in Nazareth
Despite the lack of evidence for Jesus's existence many Jews have made the tragic mistake of assuming that the New Testament story is largely correct and have tried to refute Christianity by attempting to rationalize the various miracles that allegedly occurred during Jesus's life and after his death
