PSP General Discussion Next Generation Consoles Toxic Dual Layer Patcher v1.0 Submitted by psycho May 03 2005 12:07:30 As many of you are probably aware, the PS2 has problems running DVD9 games backed up onto dual layer media due to to problems reading from the second layer
However, we have discovered a software hack which allows the PS2 to read even burnt OTP discs resulting in working dual layer backups! Our Toxic firmware for DMS4 chips already includes auto-patching functionality which applies our software hack on the fly when booting games on dual layer media
For those without a DMS4, we present the Toxic Dual Layer Image Patcher! The patcher works by applying our software hack to the game image (.iso, .gi etc) before burning

Now comes, a firefighting game from WizardWorks, the loveable scamps who gave us
If only we had some kind of smell-o-vision to give you a waft of smoke every time you entered a burning house in the game, I'd be in firefighting heaven
Of course, most important in a fire-fighting game are the fire graphics
Second in a game of this type would have to be the water effects, since you're using water so much to fight the fires
I suppose that's realistic and all, but it makes for kind of an annoying game mechanic
One nice feature of the game is that many times, you'll be required to crouch down, not just to see better through the smoke, but to be able to breathe more readily
Movement in the game is done easily, thanks to the traditional mouse-keyboard setup for getting around
The game does have some strange little quirks, though

by November 3, 2000 - In the third installment of our regular feature on The Lost, Irrational Games' upcoming PlayStation 2 adventure, we bring a few words from Ian Vogel, Irrational's lead designer on the project
Vogel brings some more detailed information on what the game's 3D engines will create - and in particular, what kind of Hell PS2 gamers can expect to envelop them when the game arrives next year
Background For those of you tuning in for the first time, let me recap briefly what our game is
The Lost is a new 3rd person horror survival game with some really great RPG development
Plus, it's just cool to change forms during the game
Check out our if you'd like more of a background on the game and our philosophy in making it
Onward Ho Our goal in developing the look for the game, while ever changing and iterative, could be summed up this way: we want to modernize and personalize the Inferno, and avoid the stereotypical fire and brimstone of a Renaissance vision of Hell

This will allow me to review a whole slew of very important games that are going to be released in the years to come
Over the next couple years Xbox Uno, PS2, GBA and Gamecube game development are going to dry up and the majority of future game development are going to be on the PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360
I don't see a very rosy future for the PlayStation 3 and I see the $600 price point hitting most gamers like a gunnysack full of bricks
I could register with game companies as a journalist and score some review copies
I will be able to hook it up to my LCD TV through the VGA port and should be able to play games at the native 1024 x 768 resolution of the TV
Also there is no way in hell that I would get rid of my old Xbox Uno for the current games that I have
Even with the backwards compatibility updates I am going to keep it around until all my Xbox uno games will work on the 360
There are some seriously cool Xbox 360 games that I chemically need

GameSpy.com - Reviews: Eve of Extinction (PS2)
"This is a pretty fun game that has a lot of good ideas and, unfortunately,

Platforms Console Handheld Sections Resources Planet Sites Get Games Subscriptions Contact Us Most Popular Video Games Lowest Price Lowest Price Lowest Price Lowest Price Lowest Price Powered By Eve of Extinction (PS2) EoE provides an interesting, if rather flawed, take on the ancient beat 'em up genre
By - Im sure that when most people think of beat 'em ups, they think of games like Final Fight , Double Dragon , and that 6-player X-Men cabinet everyone would crowd around, as opposed to games of the last few years
The novelty wore off years ago and, besides a few shoddy attempts at revitalizing the genre by turning it 3D, there arent many games of the style being made anymore
Yukes decided to change that with Eve of Extinction , and whats more, theyve decided to try to add some depth to the genre, to expand upon it and make a great game in a classic style, but with enough new twists to keep it fresh for modern gamers
Eve of Extinction isnt a bad game, in fact, it could have been a great game
But, its flaws are enough to take it down from being a good game to being a game thats just a bit better than decent
Airblade Playstation2 Game Review in ABSOLUTE PLAYSTATION 2 ( PS2 ...
"It has that pick-up-and-play quality and retains the essential just-one-more-go
feeling right through to the very end." Review by Martin, 82%.
Title: Airblade Developer: Criterion Type: Board Racing Sport › - - - - - "Unimpeded by gravity or friction, the Airblade can move faster, jump higher and perform more breath-taking, outrageous stunts than in any other boarding game you''ve ever seen
Master enormous air tricks, spinning grinds, and find the hidden combos that will make you the envy of any wheel-bound skater!" Trickstyle was without doubt one of the best games ever released on the Dreamcast system and was probably the title responsible for shifting the most units of Sega’s now dwindling console last year
The good news for PS2 owners is that the very same developers Criterion have recently completed a similar style of game for Sony
Airblade is basically a next generation boarding game with a twist
The main crux of the game is Story Mode where the player takes on the role of Ethan, a street wise skate kid who has been entrusted with the top secret Airblade after it’s inventor was kidnapped by the sinister GCP Corporation
It will take ages for you completely investigate an area where you can smash through windows, swing around lamp posts, ‘loop the loop’ over hanging bars, grind on virtually every edge, staircase, billboard and passing vehicle in the game

Starting in 1994, The King of Fighters took up the role of the Madden of the fighting-game genre
Each year, reliably, SNK would tweak the core gameplay a bit, add a few features, adjust the character lineup, and rerelease it to its reliable core fanbase

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for PS2 video game review and cheats

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy by Review by Alex Karls Posted on Monday, November 12, 2001 Buy this game if you like this genre or if it appeals to your interests; specialty title or narrow focus
The latest in a proud tradition of console and arcade games, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is the PS2 game based on the arcade title of the same name
A popular game in the 80's, Gauntlet received a facelift a few years ago, transforming it into a 3D action game
Unlike the original game, you'll need to collect crystals to progress to the new levels, meaning you'll run through a predetermined cycle to the levels, although the game won't force you down a path
In many ways what you'd consider a 'Party Game' for the PS2, Gauntlet has neither the sophisticated gameplay nor the depth of story shared by many other PS2 titles
Able to handle up to four people with a PS2 multitap, this game can be a good dose of friendly competition when you've gotten tired of playing another game
Gameplay, Controls, Interface Gauntlet , although fairly modern in terms of graphics, relies on very old gameplay
The game has a 3D isometric view that lets you tromp through each dungeon

Gameplay Take Mario's levels and structure and put them in a living room, and you'll get the sense of Shrek
jawdropping at times, but the world he lives in is a playset when compared to most platform games
While you're certainly repeating tasks in all platform games, Shrek's levels are so small and specified that these tasks are all you're doing in the game
There's none of the exploration or true puzzle solving of larger games, so all you're left with are these miniature experiences that refuse to satisfy
It's not necessarily the repetition that makes Shrek so clunky, though it certainly doesn't help when you're farther in the game, and hoping for some new twists, but it's the way the goals are executed that keeps the game from every really entertaining
I think we all agree that the hunt and gather goals of games are usually are least favorite, and in Shrek they rule supreme
